Julie Kim, M.D., FACP
A board-certified internist with over two decades of medical experience, Dr. Julie Kim is the Medical Director of the Brain Treatment Center in San Diego and our Cardiff Braincare Performance Center. She also serves as Medical Director for the original Flagship Brain Treatment Center in Newport Beach.
Over the past decade, Dr. Kim has treated over 6,000 patients with MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy). In fact, she was one of the first doctors to work with MeRT technology and is the most experienced MeRT clinician in the world. Because of her expertise and experience, Dr. Kim co-created the initial safety protocols and physician training programs and has worked with Wave Neuroscience to train and support other physicians. In the past four years alone, she has trained over 100 physicians to interpret qEEG results and use the full MeRT protocols.
Education and Medical Practice
Dr. Kim was born in Seoul, Korea, and raised in Ohio, where she received her medical education. A dedicated student, she completed a six-year combined undergraduate and medical school program. As a result, by the time she was 23, she had graduated Summa cum Laude from Kent State University and received a medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
After obtaining her degree, Dr. Kim completed her residency at Lutheran General Hospital, where she specialized in Internal Medicine with a sub-specialization in Women’s Health. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
Prior to becoming the Medical Director of the Brain Treatment Centers, Dr. Kim spent 14 years as a primary care physician in the Chicago area and Southern California. In her medical practice, she cultivated a deep connection with her patients, both in large corporate hospitals and boutique medical settings. She is passionate about providing high-quality, compassionate care to everyone and has brought that passion to the Brain Treatment Center.
Brain Treatment Center Pioneer
Since joining the Brain Treatment Center in 2013, Dr. Kim has pioneered MeRT treatment for a wide variety of neurological conditions. These include autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, stroke, depression, and other disorders. She is dedicated to providing a drug-free, non-invasive treatment that encourages brain development and optimizes brain function.
She has seen MeRT therapy change the lives of not only her patients but also the community surrounding each patient. That’s why she’s so passionate about bringing this technology to as many people as possible.
When she’s not working with patients or training others in MeRT technology, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and three school-aged children. She is a proud little league and flag football mom, stage mom, and dance mom. She also serves with her daughter in the National Charity League and supports OC Ukraine, a program co-founded by her teenage son to help Ukrainian refugee families.
